About
Those of us who share an interest in and love of textiles are searchers for ways to surround ourselves with color, pattern, and texture. For me, this means finding new ways to combine and enjoy textiles by sewing, quilting, printing, and designing with them. Traditional sewing skills and new uses of technology have enabled me to create fresh pieces that are fun to look at and enjoyable to hang. Over the years, my work has evolved into the categories of creative wall pieces and heirloom keepsakes.
Freddy’s Friends
Early in 2020, I challenged myself to create 20 whimsical pieces of fabric art thematically related to the best conversation starters ever — dogs (and a few endearing cats as well). Pet owners would agree that their pet’s unique characteristics are worthy of recognition, and how much fun it has been to capture furry friends—both canine and feline—in fabric. I chose to call the resulting group Freddy’s Friends, in honor of my own small terrier, who exhibits a big and colorful personality.
I would love to create a pet portrait of your special friend!
Pied Ninnies
Inspired by children’s art, I employ collage and applique techniques while using colorful batiks to create the silly and colorful collection called the Pied Ninnies. The characters, some named for memorable acquaintances, have cheered my workspace over the years. Following exhibitions, viewers commissioned portraits for fabric renditions of favorite photos.
Heirloom Stitching
More traditional in design, my heirloom pieces sometimes incorporate non-traditional quilting fabrics such as men’s ties or baby clothes to honor a particular person or preserve a special memory.
